Blog #1- Media in Everyday Life

The Mass Media is any of the means of communication such as television, radio or newspapers that reaches a large audience. It in some way will most likely have an influence whether it be on peoples opinions, social practices or the way that they perceive the world that they live in.

The Public Sphere is the hypothetical area in social life where people can get together to freely discuss and identify societal problems. Through this discussion their ideas and influences can be put into action.

Convergence is an approach toward a definite value. It is a coming together of a common view or opinion, people and media are working toward equilibrium of influence and availably of mediums and the influence of the mass media.

A critique is an opinion that is form based on a set of predetermined standards or opinions. It criticizes a form of expression and creates a review that reflects the critic’s outlook.

Since the introduction of the idea of the mass media, the availably of digital technology has greatly increased. With the technology more easily accessible, all people now have similar opportunities to be exposed to the ideas. Mass media is no longer just available to large corporations and those who can afford it. The media paradigm is changing and it is no longer controlled by conglomerates. Because of the availability of mediums such as the internet and television, which are common in individual households, it is becoming very hard for people to escape the influence of the media.

  1. It is undeniable that technology today is prevalent and media is everywhere. However, I think that the order you place them in is incorrect you said: "since the introduction of the mass media, the availability of digital technology has greatly increased" I believe that it was the technology that brought the rise of the mass media and not the other way around because the way that technology has been able to influence the widespread-ness of mass media. Growth in technology such as the internet and all it's channels has created new room for the media to expand within and reach a greater audience.
