One of the mock ads that caught my attention was the "Absolute End" poster, which in reality would be trying to sell vodka, but is really selling people the potential for serious health risks.
The reason these mock ads are so effective is because they are displaying the other side of the equation that the companies hide from the consumers. They will always show you the positives, but never the negative side of things. It is exactly what is stated in, "Advertising, Consumer Culture, and Desire," in that these companies portray an ideal that is physically impossible to achieve except through the manipulation of media. These mock ads allow a person to see both sides and get a realistic portrayal of the product they are purchasing, and this way they can make an informed and intelligent decision.
