Manufacturing Consent

The documentary, Manufacturing Consent followed Noam Chomsky during his worldwide efforts to dismantle the government and media control over citizens particularily in the United States. MIT professor turned political activist for human rights, Chomsky analyzed institutional organizations that essentially "manufactured consent" through subjective and agenda-laden articles. His case studies involved the U.S. media coverage in East Timor and Cambodia; East Timor receiving very little, white-washed coverage because of President Bush's (senior) arms contract with Indonesia.

His critics have labeled his works as "conspiracy theories" and his prime time discussions cut short due to the traditional television standards of concision. He has also received much criticism from French intellectuals after making a pro-free speech statement for the author of a Anti-Holocaust book. Though it appeared the media could not seperate Chomsky's support of free speech and the actual book contents.

The documentary ended on Chomsky's question: should privledged elites control mass media?
