Facebook Suicice

The author of this article makes a stunning point which only goes back to common sense. What are all these people doing when they spend their precious time crafting and manipulating a website to repeatedly seem more appealing to hundreds and hundreds of "friends"? Whether or not we want to admit, it's all ego and narcissism. And a waste of time.

People like to think that if they are not on one of these social networking sites, then they become cut off from the world. Nope. Just cut off from the hundreds of daily mundane updates from people who, most likely, are not their actual friends, which are usually small fraction of their online friends. There is no reason why anyone should be cut off from the world with phones, e-mail, instant messaging, and let's not forget about FACE TO FACE interaction is readily available. What Facebook does is make social connections a spectator sport. People start posting things not because they want to, but because so-and-so will see and write this-and-that on my wall.

I had already been considering cutting down my time on the site, but this article helped convince me that in reality, I'm not losing anything by committing "Facebook Suicide". Only gaining time, productivity, and real relationships.

  1. I agree with you. The time just slips by when your consumed in facebook. The whole process of having a facebook profile is based on selfishness and ego.

  2. Faceboo definitely has become an egotistical practice, and isn't really about connecting anymore.
