Still Killing Us Softly Extra Credit

In the movie "Killing Us Softly" advertising is exposed for its harmful and devesting effects on the human psyche. The portrayal of women in advertising are often objectified and de-humanized. Advertising often focuses on the breasts and buttocks of the female body and by doing this they reduce women to objects of lust. Violence is easily used upon women if they are viewed as objects and not as humans. It is a subtle way to reduce the value of women in society. Advertising also creates an unrealistic ideal picture a women's body. Models are skinny and their bodies are picture perfect. Women constantly compare themselves to these models and hate themselves for never being able to measure up. Women are brainwashed to never be content with themselves and their bodies. Advertising creates an illusion of discontent and dissatisfaction with the world. Products promise happiness and deliverance from unhappiness. Products never truly full fill people.
