Blog 9B_Week6_ Critical Concepts Dictionary

Jesse Drew, head of the technocultural studies program at Davis, was a guest lecturer.
He explained media filtering.
This is the concept that us as a society do not have access to everything in the world. The world we live in and the products we consumed are "filtered" by the media.
The media takes the real world and breaks it down. What we are exposed to is what the media lets us be exposed to. Free will and choice do not exist according to this concept. Everything we have access to has been carefully selected and processed by the media. Our 'free will' is a result of conditioning from the media.
