"Prochronist Manifestation" - Dominick Chen
Our culture's idea of art and creativity has been changed by the new, instant-access state of the internet.
"Constructive Instability" - Thomas Elsaesser
As new media outlets and technologies are becoming more popular, the quality of entertainment, art, and culture is decreasing.
In both Elsaeeser and Chen's articles, the idea that avante-garde works of art are being stagnated by advances in technology is prevalent. Both believe YouTube to have created a culture in which art is losing meaning simply because there is so much of it available online now. The amount of information available makes it more difficult to discover interesting, innovative work. Both authors also cite Peter Burger's theory about avante-garde culture keeping the practice of art in society fresh.
